Other FAQs

Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral to access psychology services. A GP Mental Health Care Plan is required if you wish to claim Medicare rebates.

What happens in the first session?
The first session involves a comprehensive assessment to understand your presenting concerns, history, and current context. Together, we develop a shared understanding and determine an appropriate treatment approach.

How often will I need sessions?
Session frequency varies depending on your needs and goals. Some people attend short-term, focused therapy; others engage in longer-term work, particularly for complex or trauma-related presentations.

How long does therapy usually last?
There is no fixed length. Therapy may range from a few sessions to longer-term engagement, depending on clinical complexity and personal circumstances.

Do you provide diagnosis?
Yes. Where clinically appropriate, formal assessment and diagnosis can be provided, including for conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, and neurodivergence.

Do you work with trauma?
Yes. Trauma-informed care is central to our work. Trauma processing is offered when appropriate and is paced carefully, with attention to safety, readiness, and nervous system regulation.

Is faith integrated into therapy?
Faith is respected and thoughtfully held within the therapeutic space. Integration occurs at your pace and in ways that support psychological safety and clinical effectiveness.

Is what I share confidential?
Yes. All sessions are confidential, in line with professional and ethical obligations. Limits to confidentiality apply only where required by law or to manage serious risk, which will be discussed transparently.

If my church pays, will they receive updates?
No. Even when a church or organisation funds sessions, the content of therapy remains confidential and is not shared without your explicit consent.

Will this affect my role or standing in ministry?
Psychological care is independent of organisational oversight. Seeking support does not involve reporting to leadership or denominational bodies.

Do you offer in-person sessions?
Currently, sessions are offered via secure Telehealth.

What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations with less than the required notice may incur a fee. Full details are provided at the time of booking.

I’m not in crisis—can I still come?
Yes. Therapy is appropriate for both acute distress and preventative, reflective, or developmental work.

I’m a leader—can I talk about my congregation or staff?
Yes. Therapy provides a confidential space to explore leadership challenges, relational dynamics, and ethical tensions without needing to protect others’ perceptions.

What if I’ve never done therapy before?
That’s very common. We’ll take time to explain the process and work collaboratively at a pace that feels manageable.
